Production of Tailored Orbitals®
Patented laser welding system
We are not satisfied with standard-solutions: For the production of Tailored Orbitals® we use a specifically developed laser welding system for rotation-symmetric components (“Gravrolas”). This system is capable of frontally joining five tube segments with up to 4 welds. The tube segments are cut to length from continuous tubes and subsequently joined in a configured way (see figure).
The result: We are capable of manufacturing Tailored Orbitals® TO tubes with a total length of up to 2.5 m. The possible range of diameters of TO tubes is defined between 30 and 90 mm with a wall thickness of 0.7 to 5 mm. Carbon steels can be used as material as well as stainless steels. Material combinations of different steel grades in a TO-tube are a matter of particular interest.
The patented Gravrolas welding system works with a newly designed vertical arrangement of the joining process by using the force of gravity. With an attractive main time/secondary time-ratio of welding and the high productivity turned out from that, products can be equipped with tailored constructions that were up to now only equipped with tubes with continuous wall thickness.
